I want a love. A passionate, fiery one. No, not the one with exploding, all-consuming flames. I want the one which burns just right, with a steady glow. With patience and tenderness. It won’t burn me, it won’t force the darkness to leave, but with it around, the darkness, the cold, they won’t matter.

I want a love. That will challenge two to grow and learn together. To be better and stronger together. Because that’s what two is for, that’s how you check each others’ blind spots, that’s how you just trust that there will always be someone there when you inevitably fall over. A safe house, a home to return to, no matter what happens.

I want a love. That does not need to make promises to the high heavens, because a love that understands, knows that life will never be that easy. But I want love that tries and doesn’t give up easily, that dares to give it all and believe in itself. That will stumble and get lost, that rests when it needs to, but finds its way back to where it belongs, always.

I want a love. That is unbridled, uncaged. To hold hands, not to lead along, but only to steady our footsteps when we trip. That knows how to be free. Even if it means leaving, soaring for better horizons. Call me a dreamer, but that, would be real, unconditional love, isn’t that right?
